Sunday: Deaf Church
Hello Heights Church and community!
First of all let me just say thank you so much for helping my team and giving us this opportunity to experience two different cultures at once.(That would be deaf culture and Dominican culture). Today was a wonderful first day. I will just tell you about my day personally because I can't speak for the rest of the team (you will hear from them later ;)). First I woke up at around 7:00 and ate our breakfast prepared by the wonderful women that work for Vision Trust. They are extraordinary cooks and have been preparing most of our meals for us. After breakfast, we headed off to the church for the deaf, which was an absolutely amazing experience. Leaving for this trip, one of my main concerns was comprehension. I was nervous that there would be too much Spanish involved for me to understand and keep a conversation with the kids. I was completely taken of guard by how well they adapted to my level of signing. After talking with the kids and getting a feel of what we will be doing tomorrow, we headed back to the Vision Trust home and relaxed and did lots of prepping for tomorrow. I am very happy with how our trip is going and I am excited for what the Lord has in store for me, and these joyous children who deserve the best education possible.
